Transitions

Leaving a setting and starting a new can be both exciting and daunting for a child. A positive approach is important, understanding that each child may be anxious about their forthcoming move. An emotional attachment to their previous key worker, whom they have had a close relationship with, being sensitive and involving all key adults throughout this process. To ensure continuity for all children during this important process is essential, a positive and exciting journey forward. The nursery has a setting in process in which children get the opportunity to visit, meet their new key worker, and join in activities supported by their “buddy” and a positive communicational dialogue between their parents and their previous keyworker to ensure the correct support for each child and so enable a positive and smooth transition. Developing a shared approach to learning, establishing this cohesive approach will enable the practitioners to get to each child and have a positive and open link of communication with both the parent and their previous setting.

"As we all know it’s a huge step for little feet to leave the warm, safe and comfortable environment of nursery to go onwards to Primary School. It can seem to be a long and daunting process for all the family. Unsure if your child is ready to move on? How do you register and chose the right school for your child? We were in the exact same position last year when our sons were moving forward, from VIP Childcare into Primary 1. You will be delighted to hear that they are now settled, happy and clever ‘big’ boys. We decided that it would be great if we could support parents and share our
experiences. So what we felt would help is a booklet to answer any questions,
relieve your worries and guide you all through the process.

As members of the Parents Forum at VIP Childcare, we are in the perfect position to help our parents and with the assistance of Preschool Senior this will be our next mission. We will be issuing a questionnaire to all the parents of our next generation of Primary 1 pupils.

Feel free to download our booklet below or
contact us if you wish to connect to our P1 Transition group"
