Transitions
Leaving a setting and starting a new can be both exciting and daunting for a child. A positive approach is important, understanding that each child may be anxious about their forthcoming move. An emotional attachment to their previous key worker, whom they have had a close relationship with, being sensitive and involving all key adults throughout this process. To ensure continuity for all children during this important process is essential, a positive and exciting journey forward. The nursery has a setting in process in which children get the opportunity to visit, meet their new key worker, and join in activities supported by their “buddy” and a positive communicational dialogue between their parents and their previous keyworker to ensure the correct support for each child and so enable a positive and smooth transition. Developing a shared approach to learning, establishing this cohesive approach will enable the practitioners to get to each child and have a positive and open link of communication with both the parent and their previous setting.

We were in the exact same position last year when our sons were moving forward, from VIP Childcare into Primary 1. You will be delighted to hear that they are now settled, happy and clever ‘big’ boys. We decided that it would be great if we could support parents and share our ![]()
