Yoga
The nursery has just completed a pilot project “yoga” which was professionally run by a trained yoga teacher and a parent who kindly took several classes. Yoga can install both confidence and self-acceptance, practicing yoga can help calm a child, giving them the tools to control behaviour and improve concentration.
As a knowledgeable parent with training in yoga she was able to encourage the children to explore yoga postures and philosophies through songs, stories and activities, and at the end of each session practice relaxation techniques. As a child grows, yoga can remain fun and also very beneficial for overall health and wellbeing. A yoga lifestyle (poses, good nutrition, and time for stillness and meditation) can help build muscle strength, mental focus, balance, and coordination, all which improves a child’s performance. Learning to counterbalance stress factors and help your child become more grounded, thoughtful, and balanced, yoga can break the cycle of anxiety and give a child the tools to become healthy adults with a strong body and mind. The children had fantastic fun, listening to stories while replicating yoga positions, interaction and co-operation within a group situation, listening techniques and finishing of an excellent session with a relaxation method. |
